Read to the Rhythm Storytime

i-got-the-rhythmI planned this storytime to go with the iRead 2015 “Read to the Rhythm” theme.  I was supposed to do it in the park, but got rained out.  It’s been that kind of summer so far.  It went well, so I will probably take it with me on my camp visits this summer.  Lots of fun books that would work well with chanting, clapping, rhythm sticks, egg shakers, etc., plus built-in movement and participation.  In fact, some of the books were so fun, I’ll have to find ways to build them into other storytimes.

Boys and Books: Wild River

wild-riverThis month’s Boys & Books selection was Wild River by P.J. Petersen.  As I may have mentioned a few times lately, we’re currently under construction.  This program was conveniently (ha!) timed right as we were transitioning between phases, which basically means moving every single collection item.  I wanted to do something that would be easy for me to plan, but still fun for the kids.  I was able to accomplish both of those things by bringing in an outdoor expert from our local L. L. Bean to teach the boys about real kayaking and outdoor adventure.
